Stearns County operates two license centers where you can obtain certified and non-certified birth and death records, request genealogy information, and file your notary signature.
Applications for certified and non-certified birth and death certificates may also be completed and paid for online via the Virtual License Center.
Information to Bring With You
In most cases you will be required to show proof of identity.
Primary identity documents considered acceptable as proof of identity include:
- driver’s license
- Minnesota ID card
- certified copy of birth certificate
- original Naturalization Certificate
- Alien ID card
Secondary documents include:
- Social Security card
- certified copy of marriage record
Please call 320-656-6540 if you have questions regarding acceptable proof of identity. If the applicant’s current name differs from that shown on the primary document presented, a certified copy of the name change (court order or marriage certificate, for example) must be presented.
