Citizens Wanted to Serve on Committees
Stearns County is looking to fill various board and committee vacancies, all of which can be applied for online.
The County has openings on numerous boards, such as the Planning Commission, Dairy Advisory Committee, Great River Regional Library Board, Public Health Task Force, Park Commission, Stearns County HRA, Extension Committee, and Board of Adjustment for example.
Serving on one of these committees is a great opportunity for citizens to give their input on issues of importance to them and to the County.
Residents can apply for the positions through the County’s new online application system. Last year Stearns County put the application process entirely online, in hopes of reaching more people through a website that has 50,000 different people visiting it each month, and in an effort to save money on recruitment advertising. This method should also be easier for candidates who can enter their application information online, submit it through the website, and simply update and re-submit the application year after year if they wish to re-apply.
Find more information about each of the committees, meeting dates and times, contact information or apply online.
Citizens can also sign-up to receive a free email and be notified whenever there’s a board or committee vacancy.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
CERT training provides residents of Stearns County the skills necessary to care for themselves and their families following emergencies and disasters. An eight-week training course provides hands on activities, lectures and team building opportunities while addressing areas of interest such as hazard identification, medical/first aid, search and rescue and fire suppression, just to name a few. Learn more about how you can get involved as a CERT volunteer.
Skywarn
Stearns County has a volunteer Skywarn weather spotting program. Skywarn spotters are trained by the National Weather Service to effectively identify severe weather and report that information to the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office. If you would like to meet new people and to give back to the community in a way that could really make a difference, learn more about becoming a Stearns County Skywarn Weather Spotter.
Parks Department
Stearns County Parks Department offers many opportunities for volunteers. In the spring and summer, volunteers are busy cleaning parks, trimming trails and removing brush, among other things. In the fall, from mid October to December, buckthorn removal is a priority. In the winter, we offer Ski Patrol and Snowmobile Patrol opportunities. There are many different projects at many locations throughout the County. Please contact Pete at (320) 654-4726 for more information.
