You may be able to recover personal injury and/or out-of-pocket expenses.
Personal Injury Expenses
You may file a claim with the MN Crime Victim's Reparations Board to recover expenses such as medical costs, mental health costs, funeral & burial costs, lost wages, loss of support, limited moving expenses, crime scene clean-up if:
You report a crime within 30 days
You cooperate fully with the investigation of the crime, and
You file a claim form within three years of the incident
* exceptions for victims of child abuse and sexual assault
* exceptions for victims of child abuse

Out-of-Pocket Expenses
The offender may be ordered to pay you restitution. However, a court order does not guarantee repayment for your losses. You should:
- Keep records and receipts for out-of-pocket expenses resulting from the crime
- Provide documentation to the probation agent or prosecuting attorney when requested
- When restitution is ordered, direct your questions or concerns to the offender's probation agent at:

Emergency Funds
The Stearns County Attorney’s office has a small amount of funds granted to them by the Office of Justice Program. These funds are available to victims of crimes.
The Stearns County Attorney’s office has a small amount of funds granted to them by the Office of Justice Program. These funds are available to victims of crimes. Funds may be available for:
- Replacement of necessary property that was lost, damaged or stolen, as a result of the crime;
- Purchase and installation of necessary home security devices;
- Transportation to locations related to the victim’s needs
- Cleanup of the crime scene
To apply for emergency assistance you must call the Stearns County Attorney's office and speak with a Victim Assistance Coordinator.
Emergency funds will not be provided to victims who were engaged in criminal behavior at the time of their victimization.
Auto Grant Emergency Funds
If your vehicle was stolen, funds may be available for:
- Reimbursement for towing, storage and impound fees
- You must provide proof of insurance on the vehicle
- You must have reported the theft to Law Enforcement.
