Descriptive Narrative:
Quarry Four has one of the best preserved faults within the park. It extends southwest from the northeast corner where red and gray granite meet along the fault. The fault may be continuous with an even better-exposed fault in the unnumbered quarry hole beyond the spoils pile to the east. Another complex contact line between red and gray granite is located in the southeast part of the quarry. Extensive natural outcrops to the south and east have glacial polish and a variety of shear zones, fractures, and local variations in rock type.
This is a moderate sized quarry with a maximum depth of 57 feet located in the north, where the wall under water is steep. This asymmetry is in contrast with the wall exposed above water; the south wall is higher and more steep than on the north. There is an active spring in the southeastern corner of the quarry.
