Quarry Six

This is a relatively small quarry, it has a maximum depth of 33 feet. Quarry Six

  • Minimum to Moderate Modification
  • Capacity of Quarry - 224,797 US gal.
  • Volume of stockpiles - 4,807 cu. yards

Descriptive Narrative:

Quarry Six is closely related to Quarry Five. It also has red and gray granite, but in Quarry Six there is a possible fault between the two granites along the west wall. A contact zone between the red and gray granite is found in the southwest corner. The high walls along the west and north side are continuous with natural outcrops in those areas.

Although this is a relatively small quarry, it has a maximum depth of 33 feet. The deepest and steepest part of the hole is in the southeast corner, but walls exposed above water are high and steep in the northwest corner. This asymmetry is probably related to the distribution of marketable red granite. A snapping turtle was observed in this quarry in the spring of 1994.
