Descriptive Narrative:
Quarry Eight is dominantly red granite, but a contact with gray granite is located just south of the quarry. A large natural outcrop extends south of the quarry to the park margin. The exposure is of gray granite with a fairly continuous basalt dike, a variety of shear zones, and good glacial polish. Along the south wall of the quarry, there is a small basalt dike.
This is a relatively small quarry, but it is the second deepest quarry in the park with a maximum depth of 99 feet. There is a large elevation difference in water levels between this quarry and Quarries Five, Six, and Seven to the east. A small wetland just east of Quarry Eight's spoils pile has been identified as anomalous by an ecologist, because it contains plants not frequently found in wetlands.
