Stearns County’s Budget Committee presented a preliminary 2017 budget to the Board of Commissioners. The proposed budget calls for a total budget next year of $136-million, up from $132-million last year, or an increase of 2.8% in total expenditures. Being proposed is a 3.6% increase in the levy, or a levy increase of $2.6 million.

The final budget isn’t adopted until December. Here’s a timeline:
August 16 – Preliminary Budget/Levy presented to the Board
September 20 – Preliminary Levy/Budget adopted by the Board
November 29 – Truth-in-Taxation Public Hearing
December 20 – Final budget and tax levy must be adopted
