Crime Prevention
Sign up for Sheriff's Office updates
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office is a strong supporter of crime prevention in all forms. Without this work in our communities, there would be more opportunities for crime to exist.
Neighbors watching out for neighbors leads to stronger relationships with each other, and with law enforcement. The ability for citizens to be able to report suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office has enabled them to stop crimes from happening in our communities.

Community Policing and You
Community policing can best be described as a partnership between law enforcement and the citizens of the community. With the way central Minnesota is expanding in population and with society being more mobile, we are bound to have more crimes reported. We are in the fight against crime together. Without cooperation crime will have an easier time existing, but working together we can have a positive impact.
You can help in several ways:
If you see or hear something criminal or suspicious, submit a tip to the Sheriff's Office. Even if you're unsure, call anyway. There is no tip too small.
- Learn more about the Neighborhood Watch program. With citizens taking on some responsibility for their neighborhoods, it lets others know that crime will not be tolerated. By using the resources here and having a short meeting with one of the Stearns County Deputies, a neighborhood can quickly create a Neighborhood Watch group.
- To protect your belongings try Property Identification. You simply mark your valuables and record descriptions of your them. If something is stolen you provide that information to law enforcement to track it through a national database.
- Learn and put into practice common but effective safety tips.
- Businesses in our community participate in the Crime Alert Network. This is open to interested citizens as well.
